Another stop at the almost-empty #NCArboretum in #Asheville, for a bit more wandering around. We got to walk a bit further as the paved and gravel roads are now open, but none of the trails.

So many areas where trees came down, and where it will not be nearly so much forest in the spring, as open spaces.

Also, a fairly heartbreaking tag on the wish tree from a child.

A section of the forest quite close to the education building, where 3 large trees have come down. They have already removed the trunks, but the rootballs are left 3/4 out of the ground, with the roots toward the camera. These were not small trees, the trunk stubs are a good 2' diameter. This will be a very sad section in springtime.
Another trunk and rootball, which came down across a fence, near one of the education shelters just down the from the permanent building. This trunk is about 18" in diameter. There are many standing trees nearby, but they all seem smaller. It is winter, so everything is bare. It makes you wonder what it must have been like in these woods on September 27th, with so many trees snapping or coming right up out of the ground.
A purple tag is attached to a blue evergreen grown in a large pot. The tree is covered in purple tags, hanging from white string. This one wish reads, in a childish hand: "I know it will never come true but for Winston to come back." I wish that all dogs lived forever...

Flowers and lasers at Fota House

I went to Winterlights in Fota House last night with others from Blarney Photography Club and, despite the rain and mud, we were blown away by the light show, especially over the pond where lasers cut through the dry ice fog over brightly lit flowers on the water’s surface.

It’s a bit pricey at €25+booking fee, but it’s spectacular and worth it.
