#Transport for #London Have Your Say:
#TfL is addressing concerns from residents about road safety on the A21 Hastings Road and A232 Croydon Road, proposing a reduction of the speed limit from 40mph (64km/h) to 30mph (48km/h) to match limits at both ends of the area.
Expected Implementation: September 2025

For the past five months this stretch of Bree Street in #CapeTown has been car free on Sundays – a street experiment encouraging residents and visitors to reimagine this city street as a more accessible and people-friendly mixed public space.
The weekly event regularly featured the Silent Book Club, free rental bikes, skateboarding, a community sewing project, art sessions, markets and more

But cars require roads.
Road infrastructure gobbles up gigantic quantities of steel cement and , indirectly, coal.
Cement works use any fuel - oil, gas, household waste. Old tyres in particular are very popular.
But on a global scale they burn mainly coal (70% of their fuel acc to the IEA, 90% acc to cement manufactures.
This is handy stuff—especially if you're thinking about buying a car! (3/3)

Es ist Freitag. Klimafreitag.
Ohne Auto einkaufen? Muss das sein? Nein. Muss nicht. Geht aber.
In unseren Klimaschritten geht es immer darum, einfach mal was Neues auszuprobieren.

The roll-out of 20mph limits in Wales is leading to reduced insurance premiums as the value of claims falls which is great news for motorists, as well as those passionate about reducing the costs of road casualties.
Yes the article is from last June - but the point remains the same.

If we were the chancellor, here's what would have been in our #springstatement
An analysis of the economic upsides of financing cycling (and e-bikes)
If you were the Chancellor (and you were making cycling policy...), what would you have included?

Know somebody looking to regain their #mobility, but with a bit of help on balance? Richard has this Jorvik Elite JET E-16 trike review and an in-depth feature in our next print magazine, for which this bike is the cover star.
You can try Jorvik's trikes at any of our four demo days this year. Tickets now on sale for two #London locations, #Bath in April and #Leeds too.

Transport for London caves to #ASLEF pressure and BANS non-folding electric bikes on any tube services, Overground, Elizabeth Line and DLR services.
There is so much to unpack here, but again the reputable bike shop standard electric bike is thrown under the bus down to issues entirely unrelated. Conversion kits that do not meet standards do not automatically make an e-bike!

I was surprised to see it announced today that Chiltern will be running services on the first leg of EWR. Not because it is surprising in the slightest, but rather because it has been such common knowledge for so long…

Sail across from the UK to France in the SailLink sailing ferry!
It apparently starts this week.
I think if it is successful they should commission a larger purpose built sailing ferry.

@FediThing Here's the numbers from that article:
"The Texas-based electric carmaker sold less than 16,000 vehicles across Europe last month, down 44% on average across 25 countries in the EU, the UK, Norway and Switzerland, according to data compiled by the research platform Jato Dynamics.
"Tesla’s market share fell to 9.6% last month, the lowest it has registered in February for five years. In January, its sales across Europe fell 45%, from 18,161 in 2024 to 9,945."
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/mar/24/tesla-sales-eu-slump-elon-musks-donald-trump-byd
And just to clarify, that appears to be less than 10% of the EV market:
"Tesla commanded 1.8% of the total [car] market and 10.3% of the BEV market in February, down from 2.8% and 21.6% respectively last year.
"It sold fewer than 17,000 cars in the European Union, Britain and European Free Trade Association countries, compared to over 28,000 in the same month in 2024."
And the impact is likely to be a triple-whammy, given carbon credits are a major source of Tesla's profits: https://social.vivaldi.net/@ajsadauskas/114217003220367536
