Once again, people are wrong on the internet. This time about hillside letters -- and the related category of hillside figures -- in the San Francisco Bay Area. While there are lots of resources on both, all of them were incomplete or riddled with errors -- so I'm setting out to make a definitive list of where these hillside letters and figures can be found in the Bay Area.

Thanks to @uccawx I learned San Mateo County in California, where I live, has a Tsunami Hazard Area Dashboard. it’s super easy to use, too.
Bad news: I’m in a tsunami hazard area. (But I knew that from the last time I looked at such maps.)
Good news: I can drive a very short distance in one of two directions and get out of the hazard area — I don’t need to go as far as I went when we had a tsunami alert a while back. That’s good, because traffic was hideous when we got that alert.

Staffing shortage puts office that forecasts weather for SFO in ‘uncharted waters’
A National Weather Service office in the Bay Area that provides weather forecasts for major California, Hawaii and Nevada airports, including San Francisco International Airport, is critically low on staffing amid a federal hiring freeze.
The Center Weather Service Unit Oakland, which is located within the Federal Aviation Administration air traffic control center in Fremont, is down to just one meteorologist, according to Dalton Behringer, a local steward for the National Weather Service employees organization. #weather #SFBA #SFO #NWS

Straight out of a dystopian movie, this clip shows a group of people cheering the unveiling of one of 33 speed cameras that went live in #SanFrancisco #sfba this week.
I think these cameras are a giveaway to the supplier. It’s very difficult to find out how much these cameras cost, but it appears to be around $50k per camera per year, or $8M for a five-year pilot period hxxps://banthecams.org/posts/2024/12/29/san-francisco-speed-cameras/. They are operated by Verra Mobility (Redflex). If the city really wants to slow cars down, there are other traffic-calming techniques that are much cheaper in the long run.
I’ve also found it distasteful that WalkSF has been continually promoting these speed cameras under the guise of “pedestrian safety”, while having events sponsored by Verra Mobility. Smells super astroturfy to me. hxxps://www.instagram.com/walksf/p/C-_SnX9SGnO

My daughter's was missing meat. Mine was completely wrong -- I got a surprise of a spicy dish, leaving my mouth burning from the spice.
They did fix things. But, had I known that things would have gone this way, i would have not given a 18% tip.
Maybe I should carry around cash. Don't pre-tip and then leave a cash tip at the end.
A weird protest at a street corner near Santana Row #SanJose #sfba today: A small group of people holding anti-Tesla signs like “ELON IS STEALING FROM YOU” and “DON’T BUY TESLA”, accompanied by two people waving large American flags with the “Trump 2024” campaign logo printed on the other side.

I do not like restaurants that use a scan & order system that then asks for a tip during the order.
A tip is for good service. If you haven't served me and can't even bother to have a human take my order then why should I tip first?
Today, my daughter and I went to Ramen Champ, which has great food and the service is usual good.
We ordered two of the same ramen meal and I gave a 18% tip.
