Good news / bad news

Good news! 🐕 Dogs can be trained to sniff out many diseases, as shown years ago but hey now it's in the news again! goodnewsnetwork.org/dogs-in-uk

Bad news! Now that it's been proven to be very cheap and highly effective, it will be ignored as a useful tech, as happened with the last diseases dogs were trained to detect.

(COVID-sniffing dogs at workplaces, schools and border crossings! They could be the fluffiest of swiss cheese layers!! 🐶 )

"Sniffing, searching, naming: These actions enable us to more thoughtfully engage with our environment. The more I sniffed at bark, the more confused I became. What did pine even smell like, anyway? It was only when I stepped back that the forest came into view. Iconic and piney, certainly, but also so much more." —Katy Kelleher for Nautilus Magazine

Nautilus · Scent Makes a PlaceHow the desert taught me to smell

If you've watched ads lately, you may have noticed that "scent" is the new go-to marketing buzzword. From perfumes to laundry products, everything has a scent now. Scents that have spent a long-time friend to the emergency room repeatedly, and at times have made her a shut-in. Surveys estimate that over 30% of the population has some degree of scent sensitivity. Think twice before dousing everything in your life with loads of stinky chemicals.

People called it "Old Man Spice", but when I was single it worked 80% of the time.
Some girls absolutely hated it, but many found that it reminded them of their fathers or grandfathers, and next thing I knew, we were making out in the back booth at Denny's.
I still wear it on rare occasions just to piss people off.
