Another shot of Lake Anne Village with Halo posing in front of the Virginia is for Lovers giant LOVE sign, all decked out for Pride. The sign is sitting at the foot of the lake, which is Lake Anne's namesake, surrounded by outdoor shops and dining in contemporary 1960s architecture, looking just the same as I remember it did in the 70s when I was a little kid.

Drove down to Northern Virginia for my Mom's birthday. Spent this afternoon having lunch with friends in Lake Anne Village, which is where I used to go to daycare when I was really little, and it's funny how much I remember of it. It looks almost exactly the same.

Right after my brother snapped this photo of me and my Mom, we noticed the sign we were sitting under, which talks about the history of this place, which is now a National Landmark (explaining how it still looks so much the same!), and then, just to the right (outside of photo) we realized is the entrance to the daycare center I attended! Under a new name, but still there. Pretty neat!

Fellow residents, what sources do y'all use to find upcoming interesting events (also what other hashtags are helpful for the area)? I'm in Reston, VA. Mostly interested in events within an hour drive or (ideally) public transit from here. I don't have social media other than this, but my wife has facebook if we really need that, but would prefer websites, email newsletters, rss, or fediverse accounts.

Biked to a combination bike shop, coffee shop, and brewery this morning. There's another business just like it within biking distance of us that we also went to recently. All with barely even getting on to any roads shared with cars. I know locals don't necessarily view or as especially friendly, but being from further south, the options for avoiding car use is mindblowing here. Not even to mention the metro, which let's me walk a few minutes, then be in DC in under an hour for $2 on the weekends. Loving the area so far.
