Got the #RF choke up at the #antenna feedpoint, finally. This took the coax shield out of the antenna itself, turning it back into transmission line, which is the desired setup.
Now I'm running a #NanoVNA analysis on this OCFD, and it's telling me the antenna is just a touch too long.
Now I can FINALLY tune this thing correctly and get the #performance out of it that I want.
Just designed a small Test Board for our next #NanoVNA Workshop to practice some Measurements with "real" parts. It's heavily inspired from these existing TestBoard-Kit but (hopefully) less confusing to use.
I borrowed a NanoVNA from @mathias and tested my Meshtastic antennas...
The one shown here (with a 915MHz sticker) appears to actually be okay! It was an AliExpress find.
(For anyone smarter than me, does this look good? SWR of 1.225 acceptable?)
The antennas that ship with the Heltec V3 boards seem to be pretty bad at 3.998. (Well, they do come free with it.)
Okay, im throughly confused. I try to improve my #speakerwire #20m 1/4 vertical #antenna. So first I calculated the best length (which is 506cm for 14.065 MHz), then I cut it to that length.
I added four radials which are about 1.5m because #portability.
My calibrated #nanoVNA shows an #swr of 1:40 and my Xiegu shows an SWR of 1:1.1.
I can receive fine, couldn’t try to transmit yet.
What could I do wrong? #hamradio #amateurradio
