Q5: If someone admired your making or crafting and wanted to try it out, what suggestions would you have for them to try it for themselves? Would you have any cautionary advice?

A5: enjoy the process of learning and don't get hung up on the finished product. Comparing yourself to others can trick yourself into thinking you don't have a talent for it...everyone is terrible at the start, making things over and over is how you get better. it should be fun!

Q4: Double up: If you could combine two of your makes to create a third thing, what would it be?

A4: As a multi-disciplinary artist, the different mediums will inform and blend with each other all the time. Sometimes i draw on paintings, or do printmaking on ceramics, printing on fabric. I have been thinking about making a sculpture to use as a knob for a functional piece of pottery...might have to make that happen now that you made me think about it!?

Q3: What do you do when you need an alternative boost of inspiration?

A3: if i need an inspiration boost, i'll divide a sheet of paper into 15 rectangles, and fill each rectangle with a sketch. i only give myself 30seconds to a minute to fill each rectangle. the goal is coming up with ideas, not creating a finished artwork. it frees me up to experiment and try different ideas without a big comittment.

Q2: Do you have sources of inspiration for your making that are particularly important or influential to you?

A2: i'm like a sponge and soak up inspiration from everywhere. I love art history and looking at other peoples art online. but I'm * trying* to look at less art online, and pull from my own imagination and lived experiences. it's important for me to not get stuck in the trap of too much scrolling and not enough creating.

A1 #MakersHour hi. Who am I??? A very "on theme" question. There's real confusion about that in real life, too. Since moving here 18 months ago, I've introduced myself by name, unaware that my WhatsApp carried my family nickname, no, not Ropey... I'm confused myself!
On the "still and work in progress," sofa and in the crochet travel bag are 2 unintentionally disconcerting characters: mutant sleep and a VERY STRIPEY rabbit.
Elsewhere, I've had a marble tile kitchen worktop cut for a doll house. Workers and bits on site hee hee! The timer is going to cut more pieces for me tomorrow 🥰
And the gardens are an endless work in progress
