There are monsters around! With my luck re pests in my plant nursery this year (still fighting the fungus gnats infestation with SP nematodes, sea algae soaks, fans, UV "mosquito lamp" and lots and lots of sticky tape) this #CraneFly is most likely one of the #Tipulidae that are considered pests in Europe (is it Tipula paludosa?) as their larvae attack seedling roots and stems. Which is exactly what fungus gnat larvae were doing already so... [insert random profanities].

About photos, pardon the odd colours as this crane fly thought to rest under my full-spectrum LEDs on a chili plant and it's being illuminated by, well, all colours of the rainbow really.

Oh nein, schon wieder ein Maiglöckchen. Wird aber aktuell einfach nicht langweilig. Dieses Mal in ziemlich klein mit waldiger Umgebung. Hat ziemlich geschifft heute Morgen als ich dort war. Richtig schön war's.

A close-up shot of an alderfly standing on a thick green pruinous leaf. this insect is dark, with a robust black body and thick wings. The wings appear mostly transparent, but have big dark veins giving them a solid aspect. They are covering most of the body of this insect, like a roof over it.

The flies look simiar aside from size: wide yellos head with red eyes, round black shiny thorax, and beautiful wings with a complexe black pattern on them.

I was walking in my garden yesterday looking for something to photograph. At the moment the rhododendron "Cunningham's White" is starting to bloom. It is an early blooming rhododendron, in the Netherlands already at the end of April/beginning of May. And although several of the beautiful white flowers are already open, I was especially fascinated by the buds. They are pink, which is special, because the flower is white, but that strange way in which the petals are folded. It is a miracle that they do not come out wrinkled. Photographed so close, it even has something creepy. Something fleshy, like the inside of an ear or something. On a dark green background you look up close and from the side at a pink bud of a rhododendron. There are several flower buds present, of which the bottom ones are the longest and thickest. Further inwards the pink buds are narrower and less long. The still folded petals are clearly visible. There are edges along the length. It looks a bit strangely fleshy. It reminds me of an ear. At the bottom of the flower a sturdy flower base with yellow-green sepals. Around it are a few large green rododendron leaves.

Came across this little creature crawling on my strawberry plants, found out it’s a North American wheel bug nymph, which is a type of assassin #bug. They feed on other #insects, caterpillars, etc. so to the extent its prey are #garden pests these are a good thing to find on your plants.

Meine erste Orchidee des Jahres. Ein Purpur-Knabenkraut. Die Sonne war so gnädig den Baum im Hintergrund bei Sonnenaufgang zu erwischen. Und das Foto hat mal wieder bewiesen, dass ein Polfilter auch für solche Fotos praktisch ist. Bringt die Farben einfach besser raus.
