Lots of little dragon heads: This tablet woven trim is inspired by a 10th century textile fragment from Dublin. It is not a faithful reconstruction of the original. While the original is woven in brocade technique, this trim has been woven with 2 threads per tablet. It resembles the motive pretty well, though: double dragon heads, hence called Dublin Dragons.

I'm working on a medieval stag for hand washing (not yet fired). This device is called an aquamanile. He can be filled with water through the hole in its back and the tiny hole in its nose is the spout. The original (fourth image) is from 1300-1399 and resides in the V&A museum. Parts of the antlers and both hind legs are missing.

1/2 I recently heard the notion in an online discussion, that medieval christian veiling was a matter of practicality.

That is something I have heard quite regulary in reenactment/living history circles and it always irks me a bit when that aspect of veiling is so heavily emphasised. Yes, veils can also have practical effects like holding back the hair for working, protecting the head from dust, sun and the elements in general.

Way back at Easter, I made hot cross buns for coffee after church. Clearly, I got completely sidetracked after deciding I needed to write something about the history of hot cross buns. But that was way back in April and here it is almost December. So, if you want a quick and dirty history, check out Wikipedia. Otherwise, just enjoy the few buns that survived the coffee crowd.

Migrating here from mastodon.lol, which is shutting down soon. So here's my #introduction -

I'm a #pagan #polytheist #animist #queer #author #artist and spiritworker. My specialty (obsession) is all things #Minoan and I'm delighted to be a member of the #PaganCommunity

I'm the founder and Temple Mom of #AriadnesTribe (link in bio).

I've written magical #fiction, Pagan/historical #nonfiction, an adult #ColoringBook, created a #Tarot deck and collabed on another.

I love #gardening and #LivingHistory and preindustrial skills and animals of all sorts ( #cats #dogs #chickens #cows etc.). I hope one day to have a little place in the country.

And I'm very happy to be here!
