People across the country are fed up with both parties bowing down to billionaires. They want to tax the rich now. They want to keep Social Security and expand Medicare. They are sick and tired of corporate greed running rampant in our policy-making.
In a democracy, power should be in the hands of workers, community members, and democratically accountable representatives—not billionaires who are trying to enrich themselves at our expense. —Rashida Tlaib, congresswoman. #USPol #USPolitics #politics #democracy #Billionaires #TaxBillionaires #equity #ClassWar #PowerToThePeople

@therightarticle Cutting benefits won't work because of 2 simple reasons:

* Disabled people (or others who TRULY need support) don't work 'cause they can't, so they'll have to cut on food and other things. Had the choice, they'd work to earn more.
* Lazy gits will cut on their children's food so they can buy booze, cigarettes and drugs. There are some families that have not worked for generations - they'ill not start now.

A much more efficient (and fairer) would be taxing #billionaires.

@skykiss Most new #billionaires are only so based on their companies shares. No wonder so many want to overvalue their companies so they too are overvalued. As soon as the real market value hit them, they lose millions very quickly. If shares keep going down, they go broke again.
So, keep #boycotting #Musk's companies and he will be broke - there is only do much money can he steal before finally there is a revolution in the #US - and this time, they are on their own, no support from France.

@nixCraft I don't think he's "wishing" those things to happen.
AI companies are investing to push AI's capabilities so this will most likely become true at some point in the future.
Because of cost reduction, everything is being made with AI, despite the 💩 quality now.
AI has already replaced people, made job scopes overlap and merge, and reduced salaries.
I don't love Gates but out of all these #billionaires, his foundation gives money to many causes. Seen #Musk, #Trump, #Bezos etc doing that?

So last night I stumbled across this twenty-five minute interview with Guardian reporter Chris McGreal on Democracy Now!" Most of the conversation centers around the Musk family's longtime connections with Nazism (like literally the Third Reich) and neo-nazi movements, as well as how growing up in Apartheid South Africa shaped Elon Musk's worldview. Interestingly however, this is probably the first time I've ever seen anyone who works in corporate media mention that Peter Thiel, and David Sacks also have deep connections to apartheid societies in Africa. As you're likely aware, all three men have intimate connections with, and have financially supported, Trump and the larger fascist movement that's built around his cult of personality.

I'm sharing it here at least in part because McGreal is very firmly a mainstream media source, and until very recently this type of background information on the billionaire nazis ruining our society as we speak, really didn't get a lot of play in the mainstream media. This kind of critical background information wasn't necessarily a "secret," but corporate media has always been far too fawning towards tech billionaires to bring up "inconvenient truths" like the reality that the richest guy in the world, who is currently helping to enact a white nationalist agenda in America, comes from a family full of cracker nazis.

#Maine #billionaire makes it onto list of richest Americans

by Bill Trotter, Bangor Daily News
Fri, November 1st 2024

"In what may be a first, a Mainer has been named by Forbes Magazine as one of the 400 wealthiest living Americans.

"Susan Alfond, a Scarborough resident, is one of three surviving siblings whose father was Harold Alfond, the founder of Dexter Shoe Co. Susan Alfond and her brothers, Bill and Ted, each are estimated to have personal wealth of $3.4 billion, ranking them alongside a few other billionaires in 388th place on the list of 400.

[...]

"There are several other billionaires on this year’s Forbes 400 list with ties to #Maine, most of them because they summer at seasonal homes they own along the coast.

"The wealthiest of them is Edward C. Johnson IV, whose wealth is estimated to be worth $12.6 billion, ranking him as the 70th richest American. Johnson, whose grandfather, Edward C. Johnson II founded Fidelity Investments, has a summer home on Mount Desert Island, and his father, Edward C. Johnson III, long owned property and summered there.

"Edward C. Johnson III, who died in 2022, ran the investment firm until handing the reins to his daughter Abigail Johnson in 2014. Abigail Johnson ranks 30th on the Forbes list with an estimated wealth of $31.3 billion, but it is not clear if she or a third Johnson sibling, Elizabeth (who Forbes says is worth $10.6 billion), also owns property or spends summers in Maine.

"Other billionaires who rank on the Forbes list and own summer homes on MDI include brothers Stephen and Mitchell Rales, Charles Butt, and Robert Bass, each of whom has an estimated wealth roughly between $5 billion and $9 billion.

"John C. Malone, the founder of Liberty Media and one of the largest landowners in the country, owns Mosquito Island off Port Clyde and a summer home in Boothbay. Malone, who with an estimated wealth of $10.7 billion is ranked 89th on the Forbes list, also owns nearly 1 million acres in Maine, including Falcon Lodge on Spencer Lake in Somerset County and surrounding woodlands."
