Lithuania recovers US army vehicle, soldiers' fate unknown.

After a six-day search, authorities in Lithuania on Monday recovered a US military vehicle that sank deep into a swamp during a training exercise.

It was taking part in a tactical training at a large training area in the eastern Lithuanian town of Pabrade, just 10 kilometers west of the border with Belarus.

The fate of four missing US soldiers remains unknown.

Fascinating #folklore project: a #map of #folk tunes gathered by Oskar Kolberg, great ethnographer of 19th century, to listen and download. Mostly territories of Commonwealth of Both Nations (that is, today's #Poland, #Lithuania, #Belarus and #Ukraine), but also #Lusatia, #Slovakia, #Slovenia, #Croatia, #BosniaHerzegovina and #Serbia. Sadly, not linked to lyrics, music only, but still a delightful journey.

As Kolberg worked in 19th century, his works obviously do not contain recordings, but the map gives #MIDI, #MusicXML and #EsAC.

On March 25, 1918, the Belarusian National Council that included Socialist, Christian, and Jewish organizations from across the regions with majority Belarusian populations proclaimed the Belarusian Peoples Republic (BNR).

BNR was soon invaded by Russia and forced to rejoin the empire that Bolsheviks rebranded as USSR. But thanks to BNR, Russia had to make Belarus a Socialist Republic, which in 1991 became independent Republic of #Belarus.

The Polish Border Guard reported that on March 24, nearly 90 attempts to illegally cross the border from Belarus into Poland were recorded, all of which were prevented. One person was detained for aiding illegal migration. The migrants behaved aggressively toward Polish patrols.
