Trump’s admin: dismantles #disability #rights & ED. There's a burgeoning mvt agst #accessibility from conservatives with lg platforms. Manufacturing cultural outrage to justify policy that'd have previously been considered too cruel/damaging is a staple of the far-R playbook.

SM followers take their marching orders, hurling discontent at: targets & regurgitating TPs. Eventually -ideas: so ubiquitous -adopted by pols *use them to engage their base -becomes policy-.

"During a video call with a teacher of the visually impaired (TVI) a few days ago, I copied a link from the Microsoft Edge web browser and pasted it into the chat box. ... they were super excited about the fact Microsoft Edge had automatically created a descriptive hyperlink with the title of the page, instead of just pasting a plain text URL."

seeing discussions around how "members of the public (tm)" are prevented from taking part in standards development, because tools like github (where discussion/development happens) may not be familiar to them. while i understand the sentiment, i'd hazard a guess that these members of the public won't understand how the sausage is made, and will be frustrated by the consensus-driven standards development ... it's not just a "let me tell you about MY lived experience" thing #a11y #accessibility

With so many horrible things going on, I miss seeing some of them. The Trump administration’s attacks on disability rights is something I was only vaguely aware of, so I’m thankful for reporting that pulls various actions together in one place.

If you have been wanting to start a career in Audio Description, but you don't have the means to afford the training, there's a great opportunity coming up for a free training (with a stipend), followed by a paid apprenticeship.

We are especially looking for people who are underrepresented in the AD industry.

Learn more about the training and access the application here: adtrainingretreats.com/paid-tr

What’s the definition of “font size” in WCAG’s SC 1.4.12? Is it the height of the text box, which includes space? Is it the cap height? How does that work for the horizontal requirements for letter/word spacing? Should that use a more relevant metric? #accessibility #CSS

I’m a fan of @iFixit already because they help people reduce waste and gain some agency over repairing the panopticon devices for which we pay stupid money.

Even more of a fan because they are working to make their content accessible and asking for feedback.

More of this from orgs, please.
