@debacle @bitsoffreedom I usually ask, "If a single organization under US laws running essential communications for the entire world really sustainable?"
"Should every country depend on USA to communicate?"

@TheZeldaZone we are currently trying to move away from discord. Right now by bridging/moving the channels to a self-hosted irc network with thelounge/convos as web interfaces.
Convos also integrates video/voice by linking to public jitsi meet servers.
Galene is another videochat server I have been experimenting with.
#xmpp is another option, but likely a bit less popular than matrix even. Quite good though.
@AskSteve @sturmsucht @urbanprivacy @xmpp
Nichts gegen neue Chat-Apps.
Good news everyone, Movim 0.30 codename Encke is finally there!
This release is actually way bigger than you might think! Movim is bringing group-call to all your devices and still rely 100% on the XMPP standard (it is even compatible with @dino ).
In this new version you'll also find a lot of improvements in the UI, a better integration of the Stories and a new way to personalize how Movim looks .
Thanks to @nlnet and for their support .
Share the good new around and invite your friends to join Movim !

This is an expecially good time to be around #XMPP
#profanity and #poezio were recently updated, while #gajim (and soon #converse.js) got a new major release. These are all #XMPP clients, if you're not familiar with those names: first 2 are console-based, while gajim is a desktop client and converse.js is a web client.
Even #Movim (web client) will have another big release soon, supporting #audio #video #calls and #screensharing.. Want to give it a go?
https://codeberg.org/dora71/xmpp-muclist
@contrapunctus @simendsjo @jackdaniel
for #Jabber.
I use IRC, too, but via an #XMPP gateway, #biboumi.
Some modern chat features are not distracting, but pretty nice and I'm missing them in IRC. Like:
- get all your messages after being offline
- message reactions
- message replies
- multi-line messages
- avatar images
Matter of taste, of course.

E @ilarioq @alephoto85 !!!
I think I’ve found a relatively nice solution for #FediLinks in #Conversations_im.
You can put web+ap URIs into a message (or room description) and ideally a click on those will open your Mastodon client. However if no installed app supports those (the only app that I’m aware of is Fedilab) Conversations will open a browser instead.
Currently no app will create web+ap links but it is fairly easy to handcraft them.
cc @SoniEx2
@simendsjo @jackdaniel #XMPP has all those features, and there's a fairly big #Lisp / #Scheme / #CommonLisp channel there - https://xmpp.link/#lisp@conference.a3.pm?join
It might not have everything that #Discord does, but it's vastly better than #IRC. And there's a cost to using #proprietary and #centralized services, which people constantly forget about in chasing convenience and shiny features.
Here's a guide to help you get started.

@bakervai001 #Snikket (based on #prosody) is certainly the best choice : good default configuration with all needed #XMPP extensions. You can pay for a hosted instance or install your own.
Signal as an easy-to-use and probably more secure WA replacement? Sure.
But for #digitalSovereignty we should go for something really free and federated, just like the fediverse. There are various options, of course. Each with pros and cons attached.
(My personal favourite is #Jabber, which exists since 1999 and is extremely easy to use thanks to #Quicksy and its Indian cousin #Prav.)
