Trump administration considering issuing #executiveorder to integrate #artificialintelligence into #K12 #education, according to a draft circulated by #WhiteHouse to several federal agencies, obtained by #WashingtonPost. Under the draft executive order federal agencies would be instructed 2 take steps 2 train students in using #AI and incorporate it into #teaching related tasks. The agencies would also be asked to partner w the #privatesector [surprise] to develop relevant programs in #schools

#WashingtonPost entered into “strategic partnership” w #OpenAI to make the newspaper’s content “more accessible” in #ChatGPT. Under the agreement ChatGPT will display summaries, quotes and links to original reporting from the Washington Post in response to relevant search queries. As academic freedom is under unprecedented attack from the Trump adminstration, #WashingtonPost runs an op-ed from Mitch Daniels asking colleges, "How About Doing Some Atoning?"

He bemoans "decades of undeniable, illiberal discrimination and ostracism of even mainstream viewpoints.... Enforced conformity, indoctrination and censorship have been real issues for a long time."

Some ideas don't hold up under scholarly debate. Academia needn't "atone" for that.
