Unexpected corner, chicane or hairpin that you didn’t expect???

Don’t worry, emergency heel toe braking has your back. Using the gears and the engine combined with braking, you can slow yourself down massively.

A dying art form now- as most rally cars are sequential shift now which automatically match revs to the clutch speed, so everything is done in a simple “click”. Plus, brakes are ten times better these days. Takes the fun out of it, if you ask me 🤣

On a whim I decided to go watch the Australian Rally Championship season kick off here in Canberra.

A friend and I headed out into the bush to Canberra's south (about 20 min out of town) and joined a throng of 100+ spectators.

Watching a rally is a bit strange - you stand around waiting, then you can hear the cars coming a fair way off and everyone surges to their feet. The cars arrive in a cloud of petrol, dust and noise and a few seconds later they're gone and the whole thing resets.

The spectator spot is usually chosen for its drama and this was no exception - cars climbed a slope into a dusty left hander.

The ABC got some great footage of the following day's special stage, which is much more spectator-friendly but I've attached my footage for your ten seconds of enjoyment.
