He said shifting mail delivery to private companies would only make it more expensive to send and slower to arrive.</p><p>"'It becomes a for-profit business where the bottom line is profits, as long as people can suffer a couple of days without their meds, as long as the bottom dollar is found,' Smith said. 'And that's not what we are. DoomsdaysCW<p>So, I've gotten to know some of the unhoused folks in <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/PortlandME" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PortlandME</span></a>. I listen to their stories when I'm protesting, and try to have a little something to hand out to them (money, warm gloves, healthy snack packs). It breaks my heart to see so many in need when there are empty spaces and even boarded up buildings downtown, and yet ritzy boutique shops everywhere! Someone can afford the high rents -- but it's not the people! I remember when one could rent an affordable studio apartment over a retail space. Not anymore! I couldn't afford to live there, and pretty much most of my friends have been pushed out because of gentrification. And now there is urban decay because of the empty spaces.
