🧵 …Danke für den Browser-Tipp @MrClicko und ich schau mir mal dessen Differenzen zum Firefox-Klon LibreWolf an.

Maybe next year Google will be forced to not pay Mozilla's income for the default search engine deal.

With the death of Mozilla, what will be the recommended browser?

I assume, without real knowledge of the matter, that Firefox forks don't focus on bugfixes and security patches.
And alternatives like Servo engine or Ladybird don't seem ready yet.

After being unsatisfied with Nextcloud Bookmarks, I'm giving a competing project a try on my #RaspberryPi 5: Shiori (the Japanese word for "Bookmark").

So far, it was arguably worth it: shiori saves bookmarks reliably, unlike #Nextcloud bookmarks, which is eternally and embarrassingly losing the session, and has a hard time re-establishing it - even within a LAN!

#Shiori has some annoyances as well: the #Firefox extension doesn't work in #Librewolf, the browser I use. And the Shiori Android app crashes easily in several embarrassing ways. I've learned to always use the "share" icon, to open a saved bookmark in a mobile browser.

Was reminded that #Firefox 1.0 was released 20 years ago on 9 November 2004!

I know that @mozilla is having a lot of problems recently and some people are moving to other browsers. (I myself have switched to #LibreWolf on my Linux box, though that is still problematic because LibreWolf is ultimately dependent on the Firefox codebase.) But I still use it and have since the Phoenix days.

For all of those angry about #mozilla abandoning us for the almighty investor class and the advertiser bottom feeding scum that have ruined the internet for all, but you want to keep using the parts that made #firefox truly a great browser, I highly recommend switching to #librewolf. I don’t recommend using #chromium based browsers because #google is in to deep there and now with trump in charge the antitrust against google will fall apart.

And the more people using it, the greater the chance we can fork the browser away from Mozilla and let them rot.

🧵 …unfortunately, this will not only affect @mozilla Firefox, but also @librewolf and @torproject. Chrome and its clones are not an alternative, because that is Google capitalism and not freedom.
