@cybervegan
I looked into this a few weeks ago, because I'm not comfortable on Gmail any more either. I like @tuta, but there doesn't seem to be a way to migrate my existing messages without paying €16/month (for the two of us) for more space than we need. If I needed that much space, I would accept the deal and move today. If I were sure I could import my email and then downgrade to the cheaper subscription that does all we need, I'd do that.

Posteo also looks good, and seems to be a very ethical, environmentally-conscious company, but the software proposition isn't as slick as Tuta's. That said, people on Fedi who use Posteo are delighted with it.

Curious problem with gmail. I need to sign in to a shared account to work on a shared Slides presentation. On my laptop, no problem. On my desktop, the one with two big screens, I require a code. For the life of me I can't think of a difference between the two. If anything, I'd think the laptop would be more suspicious. I can work it out with the charity but it's a weird problem, right?

"More and more hackers are targeting regular people with the goal of breaking into their bank accounts, stealing their crypto, or simply stalking them. These types of attacks are still relatively rare, so there’s no need for alarm. But it’s important to know what you can do to protect yourself if you suspect someone accessed your email, social media account, chat apps, or any other major service and platform.

A few years ago, I wrote a guide to help people protect themselves, and understand that most of the companies you have an account with already offer you tools to take control of your accounts’ security, even before you contact them for help, which in some cases you still should do.

Here we break down what you can do on several different online services, including Gmail (and more broadly a Google account), Facebook, Apple ID, and more. And come back often because this is a regularly updated resource, both in terms of making sure the instructions for each individual service or platform are up to date, as well as to add new ones.

Just like in the previous guide, there’s an important caveat. You should know that these methods don’t guarantee that you haven’t been compromised."

***** Warning regarding AI contamination of #Google #Gmail search function *****

Google is changing the way message search works in Gmail, to use their defective AI systems to show you results in a way the AI thinks is best for you, meaning you could easily miss important messages when searching in Gmail when the AI screws up, which it will frequently do because it doesn't understand what your messages actually mean.

There will apparently be a way to switch to "Most recent" instead of "Most Relevant", but it will probably be on you to change this setting and I don't know at this time if this change will stick between sessions.

Google continues to ram their defective AI down people's throats.

I'm looking to move off of #google products, particularly #gmail and #googledrive . If you have experience moving away from those two products I'd be interested to hear what you use in their place and what are the good/bad aspects of it. I currently pay for Drive and am happy to pay for a good product from a good company.

I prefer to support a smaller company. Maybe a #canadian one?

(I'm a former Google employee in the US who is disgusted with the needless layoffs that destroyed internal Google culture, and with #sundarpichai sucking up to authoritarians.)

Okay tech community.

I am looking for a new and free #Email server. My first email was yahoo - 30 years ago. I can’t remember what I used on ThunderBird.

I have been using gmail since it started, and I started trying to publish writing.

So, due to a multitude of illnesses, I am no longer tech savvy.

I need simple, and useable on the #Mac.

I have considered switching to Icloud, but don’t want that.

About six years ago, my writing #Gmail turned into a spam hub, so I had to switch to my junk email to use as my primary business email. I have never been able to get my writing gmail back to no, or even low, spam.

- Try to boycott #Google, there are other search engines. #SergeyBrin, co-founder of #Alphabet, which owns Google, #Gmail, #Android, and #YouTube. #DuckDuckGo, for example, has been recommended by a supporter.
- Boycott #Apple Products! #TimCook, CEO and major shareholder of Apple, donated to Trump’s inauguration and is reported to have developed a "personal relationship" with Trump.
- Don’t shop at #Walmart! Walmart, owned by the ultra-rich #Walton family, pays its employees so poorly that many of them are on food stamps.
- Don’t shop at #Target! Target, which has stopped selling #LGBTQ merchandise due to right wing pressure."
