#MolecularClock analysis shows #bacteria used oxygen long before widespread photosynthesis
phys.org/news/2025-04-molecula

A geological timescale for bacterial #evolution and oxygen adaptation science.org/doi/10.1126/scienc

"the earliest aerobic transition occurred in an ancestor of photosynthetic #cyanobacteria, indicating that the ability to utilize trace amounts of oxygen may have allowed the development of genes central to oxygenic #photosynthesis."

Down to earth: therian mammals became more terrestrial towards the end of the Cretaceous onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/fu

"plant life changed toward the end of the #Cretaceous, with flowering #plants creating more diverse habitats on the ground... The vegetational habitat was more important for the course of Cretaceous mammalian #evolution than any influence from #dinosaurs"

@_9CL7T9k8cjnD_ @georgetakei #Evolution might be teaching but I doubt mankind is learning - at least not permanently... Otherwise we would have a capable and dedicated public servant in the #WhiteHouse and the insurrectionist and fraudster in #Jail. Let's see what the #MAGAts are saying once their #SocialSecurity cheques stop coming...
Not holding my breath, though. Apparently still 45% of voters are approving of the #OrangeFelon's job performance... Even with markets in free fall, looming recession, and talking about war with Denmark, Panama, and Canada these fuckwits give him higher rating than Biden at the same time in his presidency.

People who champion the nuclear family and insist that it is the only way to have a healthy family, are ridiculously misinformed.

The nuclear family -- as has been enforced by monarchial, state, and corporate powers -- is an exceedingly recent invention.

Humans have been around for hundreds of thousands of years.

We evolved to be cooperative breeders, with communities that heavily engaged in alloparenting ➡️

Apparently, some 530 million years ago (give or take) in the #Cambrian age, after about 2.5 billion years of rather plodding #evolution, bi-lateral symmetry appeared in animals (after some dabbling in tri-lateral and penta-lateral symmetry) and when brains showed up they were bi-lateral. #Vertebrate, but still #jawless, fishes were swimming after each other for lunch. #Eyes, which had already existed for a long while, started showing up in pairs, at the head end of the fishes. (1/3)

#Predators and #prey: size matters. “A chickadee is almost too small to have any [enemies]. That whimsical fellow called #Evolution, having enlarged the dinosaur until he tripped over his own toes, tried shrinking the chickadee until he was just too big to be snapped up by flycatchers as an insect, and just too little to be pursued by hawks and owls as meat. Then he regarded his handiwork and laughed. Everyone laughs at so small a bundle of large enthusiasms."
