Ah! Advertising #Enshittification continues. The current culprit: GoComics.com.

They have been hyping the "new look" they were planning. Today is when the released.

You now get a big fat ad that pushes the comic down and (mostly) off screen. This is on a laptop.

My ad blockers do keep the ad at bay.

And I can then click on the comic to get just the comic.

But still, more ads be shoved at me...

@DarrinLRogers Always nice to learn a new concept (principal - agent) even if it is a depressing one. I sometimes think that the whole #enshittification of the current state of affairs is a determined reluctance of large swaths of elites to recognize the law of diminishing returns. Pretty sure it may have started with Moore's Law which should have been called "Moore's Observation."

Reason 237 I fucking hate #brightspace: they lock all conversation about their product behind a soft paywall (e.g. I get stupid emails like this where I can't just see what Yi Yan.L.782 said). Every fucking interaction has to be on their platform, under their control. Much of the content is hidden from search engines.

Of course, once you get into their little walled garden you discover that searching for unfixed bugs or unmet feature requests is only possible on a one-term-at-a-time search basis. There's almost no way to see if related issues exist.

No surprise: when I dove into this last year and spent a couple of hours trying to answer some questions about basic, industry-standard functionality (spoiler: the answer to all of them was "No"), I figured out that they have hundreds or thousands of unresolved issues going back 20 years.

This company is worth a billion dollars.

Edit: I clicked the link. I did. The message was "We have also had this question. Does anyone else know..."

Holy fuck this is stupid.

#AI is the new tobacco: that industry invented scientific controversy around the unquestionable harm of tobacco and lobbied aggressively against any regulation of its sales, just as corporations now peddle tall tales about utility of AI and lobby for its use everywhere, supercharging #enshittification by normalising #slop.
It took more than half a century to reverse what tobacco industry has done to public opinion on tobacco, and the damage to public health was irreversible.

#Microsoft is removing the possibility to use a local account with #Windows.
blogs.windows.com/windows-insi

"We’re removing the bypassnro.cmd script from the build to enhance security and user experience of Windows 11."

Oh, okay, but how does it improve security or user experience?

"This change ensures that all users exit setup with internet connectivity and a Microsoft Account."

Ah, so it does not improve security or user experience. It in fact is making the user experience worse, as you no longer can set up Windows offline easily.

The only reason is to force more users to sign up to Microsoft account.

Windows Insider Blog · Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26200.5516 (Dev Channel)Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26200.5516 (KB5054687) to the Dev Channel. REMINDER: Starting with

I was just texting with someone on my Motorola Android phone, and my text prediction started going absolutely wild: mostly with curse words, obscure emojis, and porn terms which have never been typed into this thing at all. I opened up a new message to test it again and it seemed to have reverted back to normal. What the fuck was that!? Has anyone else seen something like this? #enshittification
