"A Harvard scientist who fled Russia because she opposed the war in Ukraine is facing deportation back to the land of Vladimir Putin, her friends claim.

Kseniia Petrova, a bioinformatician at the Kirschner Lab at Harvard Medical School, was detained at the U.S. border on February 16 while returning from France and had her visa revoked, according to her friend Cora Anderson."

The Independent · Harvard scientist who fled Russia due to anti-war views faces deportation back to Putin’s regime, friends sayBy Io Dodds

"There are Americans cheering for these unjust deportations because they’ve been convinced by Trump’s dehumanizing, demonizing verbiage that immigrants are not deserving of humane treatment. But we can be sure this is not the end—this is just the beginning of this fascist regime’s terror campaign aimed at deterring refugees, savoring cruelty and silencing dissent."

America, America · Reveling in Terror TacticsBy Steven Beschloss

"If criminals fail to follow the law, does that mean the government shouldn’t follow the law either?

The purpose of due process is to make sure the government doesn’t punish innocent people. The way it works is that when the government makes an accusation against someone, that person is then allowed a court process where they can defend themselves. The purpose of this process is to make sure that the government can prove its case against someone before punishing them.
(...)
Of course, there are costs associated with court processes. Former President George W. Bush once acknowledged how liberal democracy can be inefficient: “If this were a dictatorship, this would be a heck of a lot easier. Just so long as I’m the dictator!”

But the cost of the government not being forced to prove its case before punishing people is that you end up punishing innocent people. There’s reporting out there that suggests the administration may be deporting people on the basis that they have football tattoos; the tattoos are alleged to be tied to the Venezuelan gang mentioned above.

Almost all Americans would say we don’t want violent criminals entering and residing in our country illegally. But did people really vote for Trump so that he would deport people based on mere suspicion without having to prove that the people being deported actually are violent criminals?"

"The Trump administration unlawfully deported a Venezuelan man due to a autism awareness tattoo that officials baselessly claimed was gang affiliated.

on March 15, Donald Trump authorized the illegal expulsion of hundreds of Venezuelan migrants to El Salvador and Honduras despite a court order telling him to halt all operations until the accused receive a trial. Insisting every immigrant aboard the three aircrafts were dangerous gangsters of the Tren de Aragua organization, Trump maintained his decision to disregard the order from a federal judge was the right call.

However, the sister of Neri Jose Alvarado Borges—a 24-year-old of Venezuelan descent deported to El Salvador this month—said relatives suspect that Immigration and Custom Enforcement officials used his tattoos, one showing the name of his autistic younger brother and another showing a rainbow-colored ribbon of the autism acceptance movement, to justify his illegal ousting from the US.

Family members confirmed Alvarado Borges was not a criminal. 'None of these tattoos has anything at all to do with the Tren de Aragua,' said his sister, Lisbengerth Montilla, 20. 'But for them [immigration authorities] anyone with a tattoo is connected to Tren de Aragua.'

Montilla said her brother wasn't in any gang. Instead, he had been a psychology student who dropped out of school to come to America nine months ago due to the upheaval of the Venezuelan economy. Alvarado traveled through the dangerous Darien Gap jungle to come to the US and established a quiet life in Dallas where he was employed at a local bakery."

And remember, the Trump admin sent many to the brutal El Salvador prison (under “emergency procedures”) without proving they were dangerous gang members or criminals. I recently read the Salvadoran prison was ‘holding’ the men for trial (despite the Salvadoran president previously saying that the prison would take only those that had been convicted).

Human bargaining chips—

“… in tensions between Washington and Venezuela…which previously agreed to accept deportations of migrants from the US… Maduro halted the flights on March 8 after the US cancelled the Chevron license.“

On Wednesday afternoon, Homeland Security #KristiNoem [dog killer] was on her way to visit the Terrorism Confinement Center #CECOT in #ElSalvador. She & other officials have touted the #deportations as a feat of #Trump’s agenda to keep Americans safe from violent criminals. Before her arrival she said on her X account she was going to see firsthand “where the worst-of-the-worst criminals are housed.”

"The Trump admin appears to have sent a married father with NO CRIMINAL RECORD to rot in a El Salvadorian prison💔bc of a PAPERWORK ERROR.

A man was taken by #ICE for having an Autism Awareness tattoo to honor his younger brother who is on the spectrum.
ICE officials said they are questioning everyone with tattoos.

Even though ICE officials eventually said he was “clean” and NOT a dangerous gang member, he was sent to #CECOT prison in El Salvador, which is known for its due process violations, unsanitary & crowded conditions, and cruel treatment of prisoners.

As Trump continues to disappear people by detaining & deporting them (most are non-criminal undocumented immigrants) needed for the workforce, as many companies report worker shortages.
