The way I think about it,
#vibe_coding is language translation.

It translates human language to (drumroll) a #programming #language.

If you can't speak computer, it's a great tool. It's like asking for directions while on vacation using a phrase book. You won't be able to be accurate though or express nuances.

If you do speak #computer... you just don't need it. You can communicate in computer already more efficiently and precisely.

Continued thread

I don't expect the PC market to shrink, though.

There are some breakthroughs like the Mac Mini M4, sub $300 Chinese Mini PC, the ever-flooded laptop market and the best PC Gaming entry point: the Steam Deck.

It's the Desktop PC Gaming what is what I expect to collapse soon, if it has not.

Last time I bought a Desktop PC component was the Radeon R290 at launch.

Since then I have traded laptops, tablets and consoles like a madman.

I wonder how the Desktop PC market will perform in the next years. Pandemic was a huge boost, but eventually it will contract again because the value proposition has not lowered as expected.

My printer and my laptop are apparently mad at each other.☹️

A few weeks ago I had no problem but today I plugged the printer's usb into my laptop and it automatically printed the right picture.
Then it refused to print my document and went full "I'm going to print stuff!" (left)

The printer worked normally with another computer.

Advice/explanation are most welcome!

#Computer question:

I don't know the first thing about PCs anymore. But my neighbor needs a laptop for notetaking for her new volunteer position.

She only has a desktop PC (I assume Windows) and doesn't want to learn how to use a Mac (or Linux).

She is retired and doesn't have much of a budget. I imagine $350 or so would be her top limit. Used but with software still supported would be best.

Any suggestions for what brands to look at for something affordable, portable, and easy to write with (e.g. decent keyboard and trackpad)?

I've tried cheap chromebooks (got one for my mom when she wrecked the last MacBook Air) and they basically suck IMO.

I've already shown her the remarkable2 tablet setup I have, and it's outside her budget (especially with the keyboard case). TIA

I wish there was a modifier to Tab that you could hold to jump directly to the next text input, instead of the regular jump to the next interactable element.

The number of times I have to hit Tab multiple times to get across linkes or other stuff to get to what I actually want to do is too damned high.
