I am hoping to get back into roller skating (quads) soon. Since I'm vegan, I'm very concerned about so many boots being made out of animal products.

I found a website that said that Riedell has a few vegan options. Any recommendations on durability and comfort? This would be indoors-only.

Thanks!

I've been #AskFedi 'ing for a lot of things, and here's another rec request:

An app to replace #GoogleCalendar. The catch? I don't want to link it with Google Calendar, and ideally the option to import its data should be free.

(So that leaves out Tuta Calendar, but if I can't find anything else I'll just grab a yearly sub when I have more money... or add things manually.)

Also:
* online + Android app combo
* FOSS, but will consider Freenium

So far I have tried:

Notion (requires login to Google to use the Calendar portion)

Fruux (can't find the Android app, and I get that stupid 404 Dancing Zebra when I try to get an activation email)

Zoho Calendar ("We are unable to create your account right now.")

I don't know, seems like a long shot, but if anyone has any recommendations I'll check them out regardless!

Got this one for a couple of bucks.
It is in a very non-working condition, basically nothing electrical is working.
The only thing left is a Cathode-ray tube and some speakers - the rest was thrown out long time ago.

So, I need some tips from #fediverse

What display-panel should I put in this one?

I am thinking, of reusing a raspberry pi and make it some sort of "media station" if possible. But first do I need to make the display functional.

Folks who have a single-person #GoToSocial instance: what's your setup/hosting situation?

I want to try it out but am waffling about whether to go with managed hosting, or a VPS, or what. I may honestly start off by self-hosting with #Yunohost on my old netbook simply because it's the easiest and cheapest.

#AskFedi :boost_ok:

If anyone knows this it'll be someone on Mastodon - someone gave me a sticker saying "Drink coffee and fight fascism" with a raised fist holding an aeropress. I stuck it on a notebook which I immediately lost. Anyone know where I can get another one/who the artist is?

#askfedi For the #DIY enthusiasts on the #Fediverse: I have this cheap metal plate I bought to affix to the front carrier of my #Brompton. The metal "arms" keep bending outwards though, from the weight of my suitcase. This makes it slide down, and the metal "lip" in the centre scrapes the centre of my front carrier (second photo).

How to keep those two "arms" from bending outwards? I was thinking of finding two metal "blocks" to attach on the sides w/nuts&bolts #bicycles #metalworking

I could use some advice. Normally I use an entire container of tofu at a time. But that is rather too much food.

My concern is that I've already dumped and pressed the water out of the tofu, so how should I prepare it so it'll last another day?

Thanks!

#AskFedi #HiveMind I am trying to identify two short (under 30 minutes) movies I saw on amazon about 5-10 years ago. They were both dystopian speculative fiction, not quite #SciFi but I think that’s the search term that fed them to me.

First was I think from northern UK, and it featured an orphanage school for special children who were kept isolated from the rest of society. They seemed normative, but the public viewed them as creepy aberrations. For Christmas they got a donated load of broken toys and other old cast off junk, and each year they looked forward to “a bumper crop” of that. “I hear it’s a bumper crop!” The children were being raised for a shocking purpose.

Next one featured a post-apocalyptic society of hunter gatherers, living in the jungle and hunting with spears made from old industrial parts. Every month a drone flew over and dropped a shipping crate of consumer goods like sneakers. One day a brave heroic girl decides to catch a ride on the drone to see where it comes from, and why they keep delivering these shipments.

As the fediverse seems to become more popular, more and more frequently I see great posts on my timeline that include an image without ALT text. So sad!

Disregarding the sadness, when I think the message deserves spreading, I usually first add a response with the ALT text, and then boost the original post (with the image without ALT text).

Is that OK? Are you experiencing this too? How do you handle it? WDYT?
